.: Energy Services Division

TEI Energy Services DivisionThompson Engineers, Inc. has expanded its operations in the field of energy services by creating the TEI Energy Services Division. The work of the new division is being handled during the start-up phase by the parent firm’s engineers and technicians. There are plans to rapidly expand the Division to include its own personnel, testing equipment, and vehicles. The Division will be led by TEI principal Jerry Gatlin, who has completed HERS Rater training and is working towards full Rater certification.

TEI Energy Services Division is currently working to become a fully-qualified HERS Rating Provider. TEI will soon be designated as an ENERGY STAR® Partner by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. With a LEED® Accredited professional on staff, the Energy Services Division can act as LEED® advisor on projects where LEED® Certification is desired.

“The expansion of energy-related services is expected to be significant enough to warrant the additional division of the firm.” says Jerry Gatlin. “This work is really just an expansion of our traditional role as consulting mechanical engineers,” he continued.

TEI has been providing energy engineering services for decades. Energy-related services have included: design of retrofit systems, analysis of existing systems, energy audits for the Tennessee Energy Institute, feasibility studies, energy payback analysis, etc.

The Energy Services Division makes use of blower doors, duct blasters, and other specialized hardware and software to qualify new residential and commercial buildings for tax credits and other incentives offered to HERS and ENERGY STAR® compliant facilities. The new equipment will give the Energy Services Division the capability to analyze upgrades to existing facilities and make payback calculations based upon utility savings vs. the cost of upgrades.
